While out in Ceredigion, Wales, a Llanarth resident named Mohammad Tahla spotted something odd floating in the estuary of the River Aeron. Luckily, Mohammad had his camera with him and was able to snap this image of the “monster-like shape”.
“I took one look and thought ‘Blimey, that looks just like the Loch Ness Monster’.” Mohammad told the Cambrian News. “I went down there two days later to see if I could spot it again but by then it had gone.”
The legend of the Barmouth Monster started when a woman reportedly found four mysterious large footprints on the beach. They were described as being ‘as big as an Elephant’s’. Fastforward to 1937, where an eyewitness reports that they saw a crocodile-like animal walking along the riverbank.
In March of 1975, six schoolgirls claim they saw the creature in broad daylight at the beach. They described it as having a “long neck and a square face and a long tail with a flipper at the back and it’s skin was black and patchy.”
The frightened girls came across a policeman out on patrol and asked him to follow them back to the beach. They all arrived just in time to see the creature enter the water and disappear into the watery depths.
Many believe the recently captured image doesn’t show the creature of legend, but instead a log that was simply floating down the river. In my opinion, that certainly sounds like a plausible theory.
However, I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on this image. Do you think it shows the legendary Barmouth Monster? Or might this simply be a case of mistaken identity?
